Diversity & Inclusion 💙

CEA CAPA provides, in conjunction with Diversity Abroad, Destination Guides which provide resources and tips for Black/African-American students, Latinx students, Asian American students, and all other students of color.
Through our personalized advising, CEA CAPA takes steps to understand the needs of a diversity of student identities like the LGBTQIA+ community. In addition to diversity and identity training, CEA CAPA leadership engage in continuous department level project work to identify and revise policies and practices using the appropriate Justice, Equity, Diversity or Inclusion lens as a frame to reduce bias and barriers that impact students, faculty, and staff. CEA CAPA is intentional in elevating diverse student voices and providing a platform for a broad array of identities to share their experiences abroad. The CEA CAPA World Blog promotes stories and personal experiences from the perspectives of diverse student bloggers and vloggers.
CEA CAPA is willing and able to assist students with learning disabilities and physical disabilities. Students are requested to disclose disabilities through the application health forms as part of their application and in discussion with their application advisor or program manager. The earlier CEA CAPA is made aware of learning or physical disabilities the better we can work with the student, institution, and overseas team to tailor an Individualized Education Program if necessary to support the student.

Impact 🌎

Students are often given reusable bags and water bottles upon arrival to limit single plastic use

Students are provided with instructions for acquiring transportation passes to promote use of public transportation rather than taxis

Fantastic Experience!

My experience with CEA CAPA was amazing!! The courses were specific to the British experience and I was able to broaden my global perspective. The field studies, day trips, and activities were great additions and allowed me to acclimate to the city. Faculty and staff at CEA CAPA were extremely helpful and understanding when asked questions about courses, the city, and more. The professors facilitated great class discussions and the small class sizes allowed for everyone's opinions to be shared.

What was the most surprising thing you saw or did?
I was able to go to the Tim Burton Exhibition at the Design Museum with my film class!

My cup of tea: How London truly changed me for the better

As a nervous freshman in college studying abroad seemed far-fetched to say the least; however, London was nothing but transformative and eye-opening. The CEA CAPA program helped me immerse myself in numerous ways. For example, visiting Stonehenge & Bath; catching shows on the West End; and having English tea. In terms of academics, CAPA was in constant communication and emphasized community. All of my professors encouraged me to share my thoughts, challenge old beliefs, and create new ideas which spoke volumes to the atmosphere CAPA harbored. London was such a beautiful experience and the housing was a plus too--doubles with a kitchen and a bathroom! London is definitely worth the trip and CEA CAPA makes the journey unforgettable.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
To any future travelers on this program, my biggest piece of advice is to do everything! Even if it seems childish or unusual try new things. For example, go to a pottery class or join a salsa dancing class. Once I truly let go and let myself enjoy the little things I found small pockets of happiness.
Pros
  • sponsored events (Stonehenge & Bath; West End Shows; Pottery Nights)
  • wide network
  • LinkedIn workshops
Cons
  • commute to class

A good experience

I enjoyed my time abroad with CEA CAPA because they made the experience worry free. They provided comfortable housing accommodations and gave us transportation cards allowing us to move around the city with ease. I also really enjoyed the day trips they organized for us to go on and get out of the city. In the classroom I really enjoyed all the field studies we got to go on for a more hands on approach to learning, these trips to me to places that I would have likely never have gone to otherwise.

London with CEA!

My experience with CEA was awesome! I felt super supported the entire time I was in London, from our first afternoon tea on arrival day, to the mid-semester check in, to the final goodbye in at a local cafe. CEA CAPA made London feel a little more homey and a little more comfortable. They were always responsive when I had a question, and they continued to be even when I was out of London. Abroad can be scary, and it is nice to have a taste of home while you are there. I would definitely recommend studying abroad with CEA, I would do it again with so many more countries!

CEA CAPA London Study abroad review

Honestly I loved the staff. I'll admit the crew responsible for answering questions before we went abroad were a bit shaky at times but overall they were solid. However the staff in london was absolutely incredible! They helped set up extra events for us, for instance they helped set up a bonus event in the london dungeon. Essentially, a haunted house event about a bit of history and urban legends. When we first arrived they helped guide us through the city and get acclimated in the next few days, all in all they were just amazing. I highly recommend.

What was the most unfamiliar thing you ate?
Jellied eels, they were ... an experience. I finished mine but let me say I think it should be a requirement that everyone tries them cause it is a damn experience.
Pros
  • Social skills growth
  • New experiences and visiting new places
  • Met new fun people

London CEA CAPA excursions and things to do in London

The excursions offered by CEA CAPA during my London program were superior. We went to Bath and then we had three options to go to other places I decided to go to Cambridge University. They also purchased tickets for us to go to a musical or a play. I chose to go to Wicked, this sparked my need to see other musicals in London. Seeing Wicked sparked my want to see more musicals during my time in London. Some of the shows I saw were: Les Miserable, Phantom of the Opera, and Six. CEA CAPA constantly had things for us to do and could recommend things to do as well.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Do not be afraid to step outside your comfort zone and explore new things.

London!

My semester in London was a dream come true! I loved the academics from CEA CAPA's program, including my wonderful professors and all the field trips they orchestrated for us. The organization also planned events and excursions to places like Bath, Stonehenge, Cambridge, and more, with several choices to attend shows on the West End. My housing arrangement felt safe and secure, and I roomed with flatmates who were all wonderfully agreeable; we really bonded. CEA CAPA also provided an Oyster Card for Zones 1 and 2, which allowed me to save money and travel so much within the city itself. I would highly recommend going to London with this program!

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Download apps like CityMapper, Trainline, and TFL for transportation. I also suggest getting a rail card if you are a young person because it will save you SO much money!
Pros
  • Beautiful Architecture and History
  • Easy Transportation
  • Multicultural Food
Cons
  • Weather
  • Being Away from Home
  • Travel Fatigue

Researching in London, England

I had never thought it possible for me to study abroad, especially in London, England. I'm from a rural village in Ohio with multiple marginalized identities that felt like barriers to going abroad. I saw an opportunity through my university though, and took it! The purpose of this specific study abroad was to conduct personal research at various archives in London, England. It was an amazing experience to be able to exist in such a historic city, but to also dig through what has been preserved in their archival records physically and digitally. Now I actually want to get my master's degree in London, and feel that it is possible.
